Recent Work

I have a couple of writing projects that may or may not be in development at the time of reading. One is called Struggling, another is called Storming Heaven, another is called Vandals. Who knows whether they will ever be made, this industry is very confusing. I sometimes tell people that I am writing a novel, but this is a lie.

Ongoing Writing Projects…

Extraordinary (2023)

as Sam Haygarth. Seb in Extraordinary. Produced by Sid Gentle and streaming on Disney. The series is set in a world in which everyone has a superpower. My superpower is the ability to summon fish, which is probably the worst superpower in the show. But, whatever, who cares. Not me.

as Sam Haygarth. Captain Ralph Kelly in Masters of the Air. Executive produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. They built a wax replica of my head for a fight scene, but never used it. People kept putting things in its mouth. I asked if I could take it home and they said “no, we want to blow it up.” It was all very distressing.

Masters of the Air (2024)

Jojo Rabbit (2019)

as Sam Haygarth. Hans in Jojo Rabbit. Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Someone emails me every month to ask if I actually killed the rabbit. I did not kill the rabbit. Please stop emailing me.

as Sam Haygarth. Writer of Extinction. This short film was shot a week before we really did meet with the government and parliament really did declare a climate emergency. Some call it prophetic, others call it propaganda. Emma Thompson is lovely and made her own dungarees. The sign of a real actor.

This Is Not A Drill (2019)

as Sam Knights. Editor of This Is Not A Drill, published by Penguin Books. Contributors include Vandana Shiva, Caroline Lucas, Clive Lewis, and Rowan Williams. And, for the record, I did not kill the penguin either.

Alex’s Dream (2018)

as Sam Haygarth. Archie in Alex’s Dream. This short film stars Alex Lawther and Emma Corrin. It is a strange, meandering, little film, which is exactly the sort of thing I want to make. Weird little things for weird little people.

The French Dispatch (2021)

as Sam Haygarth. A cadet in The French Dispatch, directed by Wes Anderson. Starring Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Jeffrey Wright, Frances McDormand, Owen Wilson, and many more. They were unfortunately lacking real star power, which is why they cast me.

Climate Crisis (2019)

as Sam Haygarth. I took a show about climate activism to the Edinburgh Fringe. A couple of people have very kindly told me that this show changed their lives, which is true in the sense that everything you experience must change your life in some way. Nonetheless, I am grateful it found such a lovely audience. The show was written in one week and captures a very specific moment in time. I was on trial for organising a protest and having a bit of a breakdown. Hot.

I write a blog that you can subscribe to for free. It is about imagination, revolution, climate change, and anything else that happens to take my fancy. The blog is called A Fortnightly Thought, and I am currently averaging one post every three months. The longer it gets between posts, the funnier I find the title. Sound promising? Great. Subscribe and all my dum thoughts will be delivered straight to your brain.
